I have endured much of the storm on my way,
however I’m glad that I am completely indifferent
to all inconvenience when it’s necessary
and the enterprise has a purpose;
the purposeless makes me furious
and I have announced an eternal hostility to it.

Ich habe viel vom Sturm ausgestanden auf meinem Wege,
doch es freut mich, daß ich gegen alle Unbequemlichkeit
völlig gleichgültig bin, so bald es sein muß
und das Unternehmen einen Zweck hat;
das Zwecklose macht mich rasend
und ich hab ihm eine ewige Feindschaft angekündigt.
